The easiest way to locate the coolant tank is to follow the small black tube that is connected to the radiator cap and follow it to a plastic container. The year of your Honda will determine if it is on the left or right side of the radiator.
In the radiator, coolant recover tank, heater core, and inside the engine water jacket.
Under the right side of the false tank there should be a reservoir you can add coolant to that is connected to the radiator.
Antifreeze is added to a 2005 Honda Civic at the coolant overflow tank. Antifreeze is added at a ratio of 50/50 with water for optimal cooling.
1. raise gas tank, the radiator cap is there, below the gas tank, open the cap... 2. remove the drain bolt on the water pump cover and drain the system coolant.. 3. disconnect the hose from the reserve coolant tank, end empty the coolant from the reserve tank, and after that connect the hose . 4. re install the drain bolt n fill the coolant from radiator cap, the drain bolt potitions on left side under the engine.
You can use any commercial coolant for automobiles or Honda's own coolant.
Oil in the coolant tank indicates a head gasket leak.
I recommend you go to your local Honda dealer and purchase Honda Long Life coolant.
For the 1997 thru 2007 Honda Shadow VLX 600 use a 50-50 mixture of distilled water and ethylene glycol for maximum corrosion protection. DO NOT USE alcohol-based antifreeze or an antifreeze with self sealing propreties. Add the coolant at the reserve tank. The Honda Acccord has a 17.1 gallon tank. The Honda Civic has a 13.2 gallon tank.
I believe that you fill it with coolant, as the tank's name suggests.
