The crank sensor should be on the drivers side of the transmission bell housing. It's more towards the top of the bell housing. The easiest way to get to it is reaching down from the top of the engine just below the valve cover. Atleast that is where it is on my 91 4.0L
The crankshaft position sensor is located on the engine block above the starter motor on all 4.7L V-8s. The starter motor must be removed in order to service the sensor. If your Jeep is equipped with a front axel skid plate it must also be removed. The starter motor (and Crankshaft Position Sensor) are located at the rear of the engine very close to the transmission bell housing

The crankshaft position sensor in a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7 liter is located left of the starter. In order to remove the crankshaft position sensor the CKP mounting bolt will have to be removed first.
