It is on the back of the engine, near the firewall. About half way down the the block, accessible under the hood on the passenger side.
Your left arm will enter from the side (and get scraped up a little about 2/3 of the way up your forearm from your wrist to your elbow), and you can see (at least the top bolt) from above.
The lower bolt is about 1 1/2" directly below the upper one, and you will be able to easily touch it to put the socket around it. Box end wrenches work also.
It will have (2) 10mm bolts that can easily be removed with a 1/4" drive socket. I like using a flexible extension. Make sure you have a purchased a new gasket for it in advance. I made one using some gasket material, but the metal gasket would be best. The gasket may cost up to $11 with shipping if the parts store orders it for you, or $6 online.

The EGR valve is directly under the hood on the 89 Cavalier.
the vortec 4200 doesnt have an EGR system
The EGR valve on a 1994 Chevy 1500 is located on the top of the engine. If the valve becomes stopped, the engine could idle rough or stall.

The EGR valve on a 2001 V6 Tracker in on the center rear of the intake manifold plenum chamber, on the underside. You will see a tube from the right bank (bank 1) Catalyst going up and to the intake.
