This applies to 2000-2003 Durangos, I believe it's the same on a 1998 but not positive. The fuel level sending unit is part of the fuel pump module. It is the part that has an electrical connector attached to it. It can be removed by opening the locking tabs and sliding it free of the module. This repair is somewhat complicated. If you want to attempt it yourself, I highly suggest you pick up a Chiltons or Haynes Repair Manual applicable to your vehicle at your local parts store. It contains detailed explanations, diagrams, and pictures for many repairs as well as a wealth of general information. On the 99 Durango, it's also part of the fuel pump. Mine was really easy to replace. Just have as little gas in the tank as possible, disconnect the two tubes from the rear of the fuel tank (which is plastic, nice!) Then remove the two bolts that are holding the straps that run under the tank (straps are steel) while holding the tank up with a floor jack. when the straps are out of the way, slowly lower the tank. There should be enough slack in the wires leading to the pump connector (and fuel line) to slide the tank almost all the way out from under the truck. Turn the retainer counter clockwise (I think) and it comes off and the pump lifts right out. Good Luck!
The fuel level sensor is on the fuel pump module in the tank.

The Fuel filter is an unaccessable part of the fuel pump assembly, located in the gas tank. The assembly includes the fuel pump, fuel level sending unit, and the fuel filter. Search this WIKI information on replacing the fuel pump.
If you mean the fuel level sensor it's in the fuel tank.
You must have a 1998 or newer truck. There is no FUSE for the fuel level gauge. Now there is a fuel leveling sensor on the sending unit that is inside of the fuel tank and that is what controls your fuel gauge. It is common for the sensor to get coated with suffler that is in today's fuels / Gas. You will have to remove the FUEL LEVELING SENSOR That's in the fuel tank and REPLACE it with a new one from the Chevy dealer.
