it is down next to the fuel pump on the block Another answer I also remember it being on a long screw in extention on my 67 so it sits away from the block by a couple of inches.
Low of the proper amount of oil. Oil pump is defective. Oil pressure sending unit it defective. Gauge, if equipped, is defective.
Temp sender on the 289 should be located at the front of the intake manifold. Source: www.AverageJoeResto.com
The water temp sender is screwed into your intake manifold. On the stock manifold it was at the front of the manifold so it should be easy to see, and it should have one wire connected to the sensor.

I had the same problem with my 1970 mustang. First take the wire off of the Temperature sending unit (usually on the front of the block) and ground out the wire and see if the gauge goes up on the dash. if so it is just a temperature sending unit. They cost about 7 dollars.
It unscrews from the extension housing that is sticking out of the front end of the driver's side of the engine block on the V8s. On the 6 cyl cars, it's towards the back of the motor, but they both use the same sending unit, and it just unscrews. There is a hex right below the base of the fat part of the sending unit that takes a 9/16 open end wrench. If the car is a V8, and that car has power steering and/or air conditioning, access to the sending unit is kind of tight, but you don't have to actually remove anything else. Count on getting your hands pretty dirty, though.
