its located at the front of the engine just under the alternator
On top of the oil filter housing
The oil pressure sending unit on a 1989 GMC Sierra is located slightly above the oil filter. You will need a flashlight to find it. It may be hard to recognize it because it should have a heat shield around it as well. Look for its wire coming down from the engine compartment and follow it to the oil pressure sending unit. Drain your engine oil and remove the oil filter to make changing the oil pressure sending unit easier.
OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT
The sending unit is in the middle of the block on the drivers side.. You will need a deep socket to get it out.. Not easy to get to.. Looks like a big spark plug.. Mike
Behind drivers side valve cover at the firewall. The 6.5 diesel is known for the oil pressure sensor going bad. This three wire sensor is both the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge and the safety cut off for the fuel pump relay. (no oil pressure, no fuel pressure.)
It could be your oil sending unit has gone bad.
