first: i am repairing a fuel pump problem on a 1987 gl (carburated) presently..,.and i am having some confusing results with power(voltage)to the pump
second :the haynes repair book says that there are no relays on carburated fuel systems,,,nor are there pressure regulators(1984 -1990 Subaru 1600 and 1800 haynes repair manual ,section 4a -3)
third:...i am wondering if the ecm could play a role in powering this fuel pump circuit....of course it does....but is there any 'programed in' intellegence within the ecm that moderates power to the electric fuel pump???
fourth: and lastly on these carburated models1986---1987 does the fuel pump have power all the time...we know that fuel recirculate back to the fuel tank.....?
what are the feed back and controlling parameters in the fuel pump circuit?
answer the question with a question....eventually we will get to the bottom of this.
Under driver side dash near the door close to the ECU and TCU mounted with main power relay.
The power should come from the ecm or ecu.
The headlight relay in a Subaru Loyale should be behind the instrument panel.
On a 1996 Subaru Legacy, the starter relay is located under the head in the relay box. The relay box is located on the driver side at the rear of the engine.
There is no relay used on the speedometer circuit.
There is no washer relay.
The 1996 Subaru fuel pump relay switch is located on the firewall in the engine compartment. The fuel pump relay switch will be on the drivers side of the firewall.
if you have checked the voltage with a dvom then you need to verify that the power source at the fuel pump relay is correct, if it has the correct voltage pre-relay then your problem is post-relay. if the voltage is not correct pre-relay then simply trace and repair the power source. if the problem is post relay then check the output voltage directly at the relay, if voltage is good trace and repair line from relay to pump. if voltage is not correct then replace the fuel pump relay
It is a relay. Pretty much just your standard 5 pin relay. Can be used for fuel pumps, power windows, fog lights... etc. Hope that helps.
An infrared detector needs a power source to operate and it is used to active a relay that can be used as a switch.
There should be a fuse and relay legend in the drivers manual.
change your main relay
