Hey Dan==I don't know what kind of solonoid you are talking about but there are a bunch inside the trans. GoodluckJoe No "solenoid" but there is a modulator on the front (radiator side) of the transaxle below the exhaust crossover pipe. It is connected to the vacuum lines and helps smooth shifting. Is that what you meant?
Begin by removing the wiring harness from your 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix transmission pressure solenoid. Remove the solenoid retaining screws. Reverse the process to install your new transmission pressure solenoid.

It is inside of Transmission, on Driver side. Behind the Plate connected to Body Stand.
Where is the shift solenoid located on a 2004 pontiac grand prix
Dexron III automatic Transmission fluid should be used in a 2000 Pontiac Grand AM. This can be picked up at almost any general store.
There is no drain plug assuming it is an automatic transmission it is drained when removing the transmission pan and changing the transmission filter.
Remove transmission oil pan Replace fluid, filter, and gasket
My 1997 GTP transmission cost $2000 to get re-built. : (
Most newer automatic transmissions do not use a dipstick.

if you have waited until you have transmission problems to change the fluid, you have waited too late...........
Mounted on the transmission.Remove the transmission pan and filter. You will see the transmission control solenoid and the transmission speed sensor. Replace trans. filter after you replace the solenoid.
The shift solenoid is inside the transmission on the valve body.
No. The transmission is completely sealed.
Assuming you have an automatic (most common for this model of car), your transmission is a General Motors 4T45E. If it's a manual (which is a bit unlikely), it'll be a Getrag F23.
What is the difference between overdrive and drive on a1991 Pontiac grand prix
Check the transmission... the unit doesn't give out usually unless there is a transmission is having a problem too. Either way the transmission has to come out.
