it is on top of the rear end. it is combo speed / abs sensor
ford speed sensor is located in the differential
The VSS (Speed Sensor)is on top of the differential housing.
the speed sensor is located on the front of your rear end. it is held in by one bolt.
On a 1997 Ford E-150 : Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine ( V6 and V8 ) Sensor 1 would be close to the engine BEFORE the exhaust enters the catalytic converter
Bank 2 is the drivers side of your V6 or V8 engine in a 1997 Ford F-150
Bank 1 is the passenger side of the engine ( 4.2 / 4.6 / 5.4 ) in your 1997 Ford F-150 Sensor 1 is in the exhaust ( close to the motor ) before the exhaust enters the catalytic converter
Not much you can do to repair that other than replacing it.

There is more than one speed sensor. There is one in the top of the differential housing. If you have a 4R70W transmission, there is a speed sensor in the side of it, and if you have a 4R100 transmission there are two speed sensors in it. If you have 4 wheel ant-lock brakes, there is a speed sensor in each front wheel hub. So there could be as many as 5 speed sensors. Which speed sensor are we replacing?
