Located below the A/C compressor, it has the lower radiator hose attached to it and is held on by (2) 10mm bolts. You can change it with the A/C compressor installed, but will find it easier with the A/C compressor loose and out of the way.
follow the 2 water hoses off your radiator. one will lead to a housing containing the thermostat. usually has 2-3 bolts.
NOT AT ALL
Follow the top radiator hose to the engine, what that mounts to is the thermostat housing, remove this and there is your thermostat. * ** *** **** ***** Actually, on my 1997 SL2, the thermostat is on the bottom radiator hose. I would check the "Saturn Thermostat Pictures" link below, which also has installation and removal instructions.
The thermostat AND HOUSING will cost about $15 at O'reilly auto parts, and may cost a little more or less at other auto parts retailers.Note that the Saturn thermostat is cast into the thermostat housing, so it's a little different than other vehicles that you may have encountered.Labor to replace the thermostat may vary, depending on the shop and local rates.
The water pump on a 1996 Saturn sl2 is located in the engine compartment. It sits below the AC compressor.
It's under the compressor off the lower rad hose
When looking at the engine follow the hose off the left side of the rad. At the end of the hose is the t-stat housing......
