Specifically, the terms are mainly associated with World War II, and are defined from the point of view of Germany: the "western front" was the one where the Germans were mainly fighting French, British, and American forces, and the "eastern front" was the one where they were mainly fighting Soviet forces.
The exact location of "the front" was far more mobile in World War II than it had been in the trench warfare of World War I. In order to be more specific about where it was, you'd have to give a particular date.
