These are the first nations people as we call them in Canada, the first human inhabitants of a country. The word comes from the Latin meaning "From the beginning"

The term "Aborigine" is used mainly in Australia for the native peoples, with the word "Aboriginal" being the adjective.

Australian aborigines are thought to have been Asians travelling south down the Pacific Rim to Australia. North American aboriginals may have originated in several waves both as oriental folks from China or Caucasians from the Ainu stock of Japan who in turn may have originate in Europe (based on language similarities between Canadian West Coast languages and Ainu, and Ainu and Basque similarities)

The aborginals are the first peoples of Australia. Their history arguably dates back some 30 to 40 thousand years.
