The US had half a million men in South Vietnam at one time; but the ARVN may have had the largest in total, since he didn't have to ship (transport) men across 10,000 miles of ocean to get there.
What are the guidelines (rules)?
1. The US traditionally has had the best, but who won the war?
2. Does winning a war count as determining the best military?
3. Does winning the most battles count as a determining factor?
4. Does having the most toys (war machines) count as a determining factor?
5. Does having the most variety of toys count as a factor?
6. Does having the most sophisticated equipment count as a factor?
7. Does having the smallest military & defeating a larger military count as a factor?
Were the 300 Spartans better than the Persians? Man per man probably, since they killed more than 300 Persians.
The NVA marched into South Vietnam thru waves of US bombs. Then tangled with the most sophisticated army in the world, the US. And they seldom, if ever surrendered, unlike armies in the Middle East (S/W Asia) who surrendered by the drove in '67, '73, '91, '03, etc.
Well this question has made things rather easy with it's wording. By using the term "soldiers" this question has eliminated the sailors of the United States Navy, airmen of the United States Air Force, Coast Guardsmen (yes they were in Vietnam too) of the United States Coast Guard, and last but not least it has eliminated the men of United States Marine Corps! Consequently this question only pertains to the United States Army, it's "Army" allies and the enemy. And since the NVA (North Vietnamese Army) won the Vietnam War...then they must have been the best!
