It depends on which period in his life. He has said his mother and his maternal grandmother were major influences on him. He was also influenced by his Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Tribe. He was influenced by Reverend Jeremiah Wright (while this relationship would later turn controversial, the president has praised Rev. Wright for helping him to recommit himself to Christianity). And of course, he was influenced by his wife Michelle. These days, the president is also influenced by some of his trusted advisers and cabinet members. By all accounts, he has a good relationship with his vice president, Joe Biden, for example, and also has good relationships with the members of his cabinet.

Barack Obama has said in his own writings that his mother and his maternal grandmother, both of whom helped to raise him, were major influences in his life, as was the woman he married, Michelle (Robinson). He was also influenced by the law professor for whom he worked at Harvard, Laurence Tribe. And as for historical figures, he has said he was influenced by Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King.
