The United States and Great Britain. It was basically a continuation of our Revolutionary War

Answer:

Some sources still do attempt to repaint it as "The Second Revolutionary War", which implies that the British, at some point, made any attempt to undo the revolution of 40 years before. That presents two factual problems. The British did not start the war; it began with the United States attacking a neighbour with the intent of forcibly annexing Canada. Second, the British, having defeated that invasion (with the help of much larger Canadian and native forces), did occupy Washington and other American territory, and had vastly larger numbers of battle-hardened troops on the way. But while they certainly had the capability, they absolutely declined the chance to hold that territory, both on the battlefield and at the negotiating table, having just finished fighting Napoleon. The revolution was never threatened.

It would also be incomplete to leave Canadians off the list of who participated. Canada would not gain independence until 1867, but there had been native-born Canadians living along the St Lawrence, (and beyond) since the 1500s, and, in fact, the terms "Canada" and "Canadian", used to describe those people pre-dates "American" (as a term for European settlers) by about a hundred years.

To deny that Canada existed, as some have on this point, is like arguing that there was no Ireland until 1922.

In terms of who beat back the US invasion, Canadian militias, provincial regulars, and natives outnumbered regular British forces by about three-to-one. And while the training of those British regulars made them the core of the defense, many of them were Canadians who had joined the Royal Army.

Why is this in the World Wars section?

The battle of 1812 was between the relatively new United States and the British

the British were supposed to evacuate forts along the US border, but they refused, saying it was to protect their colonies in Canada. there were a few disputes, then Britain invaded and attacked our capitol.

im personally not sure, but i think we provoked them by attacking something, i fell asleep during that portion in my history class
