The Czechs were victims of the British and French policy of appeasement to keep the Nazis away from them. They had a German section in Czechoslovakia already. They basically hard balled the Czechs into conceding. The President of Czechoslovakia ended up in London and ruled many Czechs there. The policy of appeasement did not work because the French and Brits did not understand the Nazis and their ways.
The Sudetenland, a part of Czechoslovakia that largely bordered Germany and had a rich German heritage, came into Hitler's sights in 1938. It was part of a country -- Czechoslovakia -- that had been created out of whole cloth in the aftermath of World War I. Roughly 23% of the country spoke German, mostly in the border areas. It was in those border areas that Hitler's interests lay, at least at first.
Great Britain and France collaborated to sacrifice Czechoslovakia in pieces and parts. Neville Chamberlain's acclaimed "peace in our time" was merely the abandonment of the Sudetenland to Nazi Germany in 1938, to be followed by the swallowing whole of all of Czechoslovakia the next year.
WHY did Czechoslovakia give up the Sudetenland? Her so-called "allies," specifically England and France, left her standing naked against the power of Nazi Germany, a force with which she was unprepared to fight. England and France colluded with the Nazis to partition Czechoslovakia -- without the slightest input from, or even the knowledge of, the Czechs.
The inevitable onset of WWII brought Neville Chamberlain to shame and retirement, and Winston Churchill to fame and history. It also featured the quick and well-deserved utter defeat of a ridiculously-overrated France.
I am not for sure, but i looking on Google right now and i just typed in that question (minus the why did part) and it came up with a lot of information, i hope that helped a little :)
Germany
Britain and France tried to avoid war by accepting the demands of Germany through appeasement.
The western countries that were France, Italy- Benito Mussolini and Britain- Neville Chamberlain were appeasing to Hitler because he wanted Sudetenland which was a part of Czechoslovakia because it was occupied by a majority of a population of Germans... also Britain, Italy and France thought that if they agree to his demands in return of a favor of not invading any other territory. They signed this appeasement without the knowledge of Czechoslovakia. Czechoslovakia was shocked but could not do anything as it was not that powerful to defeat France, Italy, Germany, Britain or any of them.
czechoslovakia
Giving into a hostile countries demands in hopes to keep peace with them
in 1938, Britain and France signed the Munich pact with Germany and Italy. The pact permitted German annexation of border areas of Czechoslovakia (sudetenland).
Germany
Gave in to hitler's demands for the Sudentenland
Berlin Conference
I am not sure if this is what you are looking for but the way Britain and France gave in to Hitler's demands was called Appeasement.
The policy became known as "appeasement" because in trying to avoid war, the other countries of Europe were giving Hitler what he asked for, and in the process allowing a weaker country (Czechoslovakia) to be annexed and occupied.
