Dred Scott thought he was free because he had lived in the free states of Illinois and Minnesota. However, he was living in the slave state of Missouri upon the death of his master, Dr. John Emerson.
I acully have a test about him tomarrow and answer:Becuase he belived that slaves and blacks should be free. He wasen't freed because his master said that "he is property he cant be a human being" so they judge agreed that he was property so he was never free. And at school we call this the Dred Scott Decision.
Because he had been taken by his master to a free-soil state, where his freedom would have been granted automatically, if he had applied for it.
But he did not apply for it until he was back in slave country, and the local judges had never had this kind of case presented to them.
That is how it ended up in the Supreme Court, and became a big national controversy.
Because he had lived on free soil for some years, where he would have been entitled to his freedom automatically. But he had not applied for it at that time.
He was taken to the free state of illinois and lived there for many years.
Cuz he is dumb >:D
he wanted to be free with women
Robert E. Lee was against slavery. He actually freed all the slaves he had. The only reason he fought for the Confederacy was because he wanted to stay loyal to his home state of Virginia.
Slaves. He was the most revered and respected person in the Confederacy and he was against slavery. He freed the slaves that had come to him by way of his father-in-law's estate will.
I think Slavery should be banned for life, its so wrong to treat someone diffrently because of their race!
She told slaves she knew to come with her to be free
the 13th amendment freed the slaves for all the country in the south and it was ratified in Dec,6 1865.

The confederate states think that there should no longer be slaves.
Loved it. The verdict made slavery legal in every state of the Union.
Slavery should not be aloud because I think that's just wrong, unfair, and racist because people are not property and deserve a life. There is no reason for slavery.
They thought it was immoral and should be abolished.
While most Northeners were not in favor of slavery, however, by abolishing it gave them cause for concern. They feared racial strife, Consitutional issues, fears that thousands of freed slaves would come streaming into Northern States, that freed slaves would be cheap labor for Northern industries and cause white unemployment and just plain racism.
He did not think slavery should be abolished, but he did not want it to spread to new states
Because the decision showed that the Supreme Court didn't think that any State could outlaw slavery.
