Henry would have had little time for Protestants. He was aware of a reformist movement in the English Catholic Church trying to introduce theoligical elements based on the new protestant doctrine.
When Henry VIII came to the throne, he was a devout Catholic and defended the Church against them. Henry VIII did not agree with their views. In 1521, Pope Leo X honoured Henry VIII with the title "Defender of Faith', because of his support for the Roman Church. When the Pope refused to grant Henry VIII an annulment from Catherine of Aragon, Henry split the English Church from the Roman church. Rather than the pope, the king would be the spiritual head of the English church.

This marked the start of centuries or religious conflict in Britain. ∙ 14y agoHenry VIII did not "make the protestant church." The Protestant Church split away from Roman Catholicism through a long process with many steps and stages, and many differences in different nations, in the period known as the Protestant Reformation.
Henry VIII decided, for political and personal reasons, that he could not continue in obedience to the Roman Catholic Church, and so began the process that developed into the Anglican Church.

Henry VIII did a great job of preventing the Protestant Reformation from having any great affect on England - until he needed a divorce. When the Catholic Church refused to grant Henry VIII a divorce, he decided to make his own version of Christianity, where he made the rules. Henry VIII started the Anglican / Church of England, where Henry VIII was the head of the church (much like the Pope). Henry VIII gave himself permission to divorce and ordered all his subjects to become Protestant.
