Answer 1
Hezbollah are based in Lebanon, although in reality they are from Iran and are of Iranian nationality. They live and work in Lebanon. Hezbollah is a milita and despite what most people believe, Hezbollah does not have absolute power over governments. That is, even Hezbollah and other militas can only do what the governments will allow them to do.The current Gaza crisis now in January 2009 is very similar to the Lebanon invasion of 2006. And it has been reported that other governments have not done anything to stop the Israeli bombing of Gaza. Hamas is also not helping the people in Gaza either. Also Gaza cannot be reached easily by other countries, as to get there one has to go Israel, and this is difficult. As Israel does not allow a lot of people into the country, people with Syrian or Lebanese passports and with passports from most other countries Arab and others who are not at peace with Israel or have not signed a peace treaty. Egypt and Jordan have, but even citizens of those countries cannot get into Israel. Egypt has closed its borders with Israel and Israel won't let anybody in or out now. Hezbollah and other militas cannot get into Israel anymore than anybody else can. They and other militas have been forbidden by the Lebanese government from intervening in any way.The Iranian government, who originally created Hezbollah, fears that if Hezbollah or other militas get involved in any way with the currant crisis, Israel will invade Lebanon again or even invade Iran or other Arab countries. As mentioned Hezbollah cannot go against the government, and also the country, Israel and Gaza is closed to outsiders. There for entry into or out of by the militas is impossible. Other governments want to help, but Israel is closed even to other governments. The Israelis have killed and arrested innocent people trying to help aid workers and reporters. So Gaza is out of reach for everybody and people in Gaza are trapped there, as they cannot get out.

Answer 2
There are a few reasons why Hezbollah has not assisted the Palestinians during the Gazan War of 2008.

Lack of Access: Hezbollah has no naval craft and could not have made an amphibious landing in Gaza or Egypt to begin an offensive in Gaza against Israel.

Avoiding an Invasion of Lebanon:
Hezbollah is aware from the 2006 Israeli-Hezbollah War that Israel is more than willing to hunt them down if they violate the UN Ceasefire Zone along the Israeli-Lebanese border to attack from Lebanon. Hezbollah may have packaged the war as a victory against Israel, but it was not interested in losing militants for no real benefit.

Dead Body Propaganda:
Hezbollah at its core is not interested in the Palestinians, but the eradication of Israel. Nothing makes Israel look worse than numerous civilian casualties in Palestine. As a result, they also choose to intentionally do nothing to prolong the fighting and increase the number of Palestinian deaths to humiliate Israel.

Iranian Prohibition: Iran is more than happy to maintain the current Iranian-Israeli Proxy Wars, but Hezbollah's direct involvement in the Gazan War could spark a rise from mere proxy wars to actual war. Iran wishes to avoid conflict until a time when it could assure victory and has ordered Hezbollah to stand down.

Notes on Answer 1
There are a few assertions that Answer 1 makes that are false:

  • Hezbollah is under the yoke of the Lebanese government: This has been proven to not be the case. When Hezbollah did not win the Lebanese elections later in 2009, they launched a military attack on the capital until parts of their vision were realized for Lebanon. While Hezbollah may take Lebanese laws into account, it is not bound by them.
  • Gaza can only be reached by Israel: While this is the current political reality, it is not the geographic reality. Egypt maintains a border crossing at Rafah. However, Egypt, both under Mubarak and later under Morsi has kept the border closed. Egyptians are just as afraid of the Gaza Hamastan as the Israelis. However, there are numerous smuggling tunnels between Egypt and Gaza, so Hezbollah militants could get into Gaza if they really wanted to go.
  • Israel's borders were closed: Israel's borders with all of its neighbors (Jordan and Egypt) remained open throughout the conflict. There may have been increased border procedures since the country was at war. The only borders that were under strict scrutiny were those with the Gaza Strip. Getting into and out of Israel was not a problem. Hezbollah would have a problem entering Israel since Lebanese, Syrian, and Iranian citizens cannot enter Israel (as their countries reject its legitimacy).

Is Gazan a word meaning person from Gaza or must it be Palestinian?

There are practically no people from Gaza who are not ethnic Palestinians, so the distinction is meaningless in any real sense, but Gazan refers to an inhabitant of the Gaza Strip and is a "national" term as opposed to Palestinian, which is an ethnic term.

How has Hezbollah effectively defended the Palestinian People?

Answer 1Hezbollah has perpetuated violence between the Palestinians and Israel. So far this has not done any good for anyone, but who knows, perhaps someday Israel will be destroyed, all the Jews will be killed, and the Palestinians will be happy.Answer 2Hezbollah mostly supports Lebanon against being occupied by Israel. currently parts of Lebanon like Kfarchouba, Al-Ghajar and Shebaa farms are occupied by Israel and 11,000 anti-Israel activists and fighters from Palestine and Lebanon are held in Israel prisons and 70% of Palestinians are living out of their country in poorly situation and waiting to back to their homes and lands. Hezbollah supports Palestinians by resisting against occupation and Imperialism. Hezbollah supports Palestine Resistance Movement in different ways. for example providing them technology for making home made missiles to be used against Israel attacks. Palestinians used their home made rockets against Israel. many of Hezbollah supports for Palestine Resistance fighters are secret because Israeli forces immediately terror by air attack or kidnap any known activist in Palestine or Lebanon. currently 11,000 of them are in Israel prisons. Hezbollah condemns any attack of Israel on any Palestine of Lebanon people. but western media re highly biased about Hezbollah and does not cover news about Hezbollah properly. The government of Lebanon is not controlled by Hezbollah and so Hezbollah can not solve all problems of Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon. governments of Lebanon in many cases have been in secret friendship relations with Israel. for example supporting Phalangist extremists against Hezbollah.Hezbollah according to Qur'an consider all Muslims their brothers. The believers are but brothers, so make settlement between your brothers. And fear Allah that you may receive mercy. (49:10)the Palestine Resistance movement members are both Shia and Sunni Muslims but Hezbollah consider any Palestinian a wronged who their homes are occupied by a arrogant regime and according to Islam a Muslim has duty to help any wronged even if he is not Muslim. but liberating all remaining occupied lands of Lebanon and making all resistance prisoners from Israel prisons has priority for Hezbollah. but supporting Palestine Resistance and even any wronged people all over the world is mission of Hezbollah as a Twelver Shia Islam party.Answer 3Hezbollah has often claimed to defend the Palestinian people by resisting Israeli occupation, but this resistance has not actually resulted in any gains for Palestinians. While it is certainly arguable that Hezbollah has been successful in pressuring Israel to withdraw from southern Lebanon, which was under Israeli occupation from 1982-2000, no senior Middle East scholar has ever credited Hezbollah with any of the Palestinian political or military gains vis-a-vis Israel. The Oslo Accords were a result of the First Palestinian Intifada, which had no Hezbollah involvement. In terms of the Gaza Strip, Hezbollah is tangentially related since Hamas, the occupying force in the Gaza Strip, is also a terrorist/paramilitary organization supported by Iran. However, Hamas has made no serious gains against Israel despite its posturing. Since the Hamas assumption of power in 2007, the situation for Palestinians in the Gaza has consistently deteriorated with the one exception that Palestinian fishing rights, which had been severely curtailed after the First Gazan War of 2008-2009 where minimally restored after the Second Gazan War of 2012. Between the two Gazan Wars, approximately 1500 Palestinians died with minimal Israeli casualties. Thankfully, since Hezbollah has done little to help the Palestinians in these conflicts, they cannot he held accountable for Hamas' deplorable mistake of putting its civilian population in the Israeli line of fire.As concerns politics in Lebanon, Hezbollah has actually used its political clout to ignore the Palestinians living in Lebanon (who represent nearly a tenth of the overall Lebanese population). While Hezbollah is not responsible for any of the several attacks on Palestinian Refugee Camps in Lebanon (such as Sabra, Shatilla, and Nahr el-Bared) they did not take any actions to prevent these massacres, nor did they condemn those who did. Additionally, Hezbollah has never suggested or supported a normalization of papers measure for Lebanese Palestinians. A "normalization of papers" could be as minimal as providing Lebanese Palestinians with working papers so that they could get jobs in Lebanese companies or it could be full Lebanese citizenship. Supporting a measure like this would certainly be in the Palestinian interest, but Hezbollah has seen fit to ignore this problem, which is no different than the rest of the Lebanese electorate. However, the other groups do not claim to be the defenders of the Palestinian people.

Why is there war in Palestine?

There is a war because the land was originaly Palestine, but was split up after world war 2 to add Israel so that the Jews could have some of the holy land. The Isrealis attacked the Palestinian half of Jerusalem and other Palestinian states because they said the holy city could never be split. This resulted in Palestinians getting kicked out of their homes, but some fought back, and there is still dispute there now. Ask the US why it supports Israel against civilian Palestinians Because the Palestinians are being ruled and abused by the Israeli's and being denied there rightful homeland. The lands they do still have are being taken away from them and Israeli settlements are being built on them.

When did the Gazan War of 2008 start?

December 27, 2008.

Where have Israelis been building settlements that angered many Palestinians?

The Settlements that are often discussed in the news are Jewish villages and neighborhoods built in the West Bank and formerly built in Gaza (the Israeli government forcibly removed the Gazan ones in 2005). These cause resentment among Palestinians specifically because they appear to be removing all of the land that Palestinians claim for their future state. A number of Palestinians are also angered by the natural growth of Jewish-majority Israeli cities because they see all of Israel as belonging to a future Palestinian state (not simply the West Bank and Gaza) and are angered by the growth in numbers of Jews.
