Hitler realized he could not hope to win a war fighting on 2 fronts at the same time. Signing a non-agression pact allowed Hitler to concentrate on the Western front.

It is a three fold reason.

1. Background

2.Economical

3.Power Political Play

By 1939, both countries had cut ties with the Western countries. Hitler knew that it was a matter of time that Poland and Russia would join forces, as Stalin feared a Nazi invasion. For Stalin, the secret protocol was to beneficial since after the war, he presumed much territory would be open - and he coveted Finland, Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania and Hitler would keep Poland and not invade USSR.

The pact would would ensure Poland could be defeated without interference from USSR. *USSR agreement was to support the invasion of Poland (*which resulted in the killing of 20,000 Polish Army persons by the Red Army -USSR). In return, Hitler would support Stalin's fight against the Japanese off the coast of Siberia and in China. Russia received 200million from Nazi Germany for its offensive against the Japanese, and Hitler received 180million worth of 'commodities' from Stalin.

Hitler never lost sight of his plan to invade USSR, but rather than go to war with the USSR and expecting a new war with other European powers such as Poland & Britain, Hitler bought himself time and made a pact with Stalin in order to defeat Poland and the Western Powers. The pact also reassured Hitler that any allies would be slow to help Poland, since any hostile action would against Germany would surely mean war with the Soviets.

The Pact was signed on August 23, 1939.

Hitler's Treaty with the Soviets was made as a pretext for Germany to be able to invade Poland without starting an immediate war with the Soviet Union in 1939. This was explicitly so that Hitler could focus his forces westward and leave a marginal force to guard his Eastern Border. He most likely figured that he could overwhelm the Soviet Union after defeating France and the UK. These were all tactical reasons.

Why did Hitler and Stalin agree to the nonaggression pact?

Stalin did not want to go to war, and Hitler didn't want Stalin to attack him, so they agreed on a non-aggression pact in which they would split Poland in half and not attack one another for 10 years. Hitler did however agree to this non-aggression pact with all the intentions of breaking it in the future and attacking Russia, which he did. Also he joined this pact because it shocked the Western powers and made them think that maybe Hitler's territorial ambitions were not as strong or as bad as they thought and making them less concerned with what he was doing.

What was Russia's biggest mistake during World War 2?

There may be different opinions on this, but IMO the biggest mistake Russia made was making the Molotov-Ribbentrop Non-Aggression Pact of August 1939. This was an agreement between Hitler and Stalin that neither would invade the other. Hitler had plans all along to violate the pact, but in signing the pact, Russia was fell asleep at the wheel (so to speak). When Hitler invaded, Russia was pushed back all the way to Stalingrad.

What did the Nonaggression pact that Hitler signed with Stalin allow Hitler to do?

He could use his troops on the western front and not worry about the eastern front (Russia).
