United States law states that no US president may be elected to more than two terms. The 22nd Amendment (1951) was adopted partly in response to Franklin D. Roosevelt's 4 consecutive terms in the middle of the 20th century. Therefore a president who has held that post for two terms is ineligible to run again.

Ronald Reagan (40th), Bill Clinton (42nd), and George W. Bush (43rd) were two-term Presidents.

How was President Lyndon B Johnson able to seek another run?

In 1964, Johnson had only been president for a year, and was eligible for an additional term. He actually could have run again in 1968, but he opted out. The 22nd Amendment limits presidents to being elected to two terms, but if as in Johnson's case, he was VP first and became president at after least two years into that term, it's possible for someone to be president for 10 years.
