Why did europeans explore Africa in the 1500s?

primarily because it was effectively undiscovered and unknown things means the possibility of great profit no one knew what is was like it could be rich in land, gold, or any luxury they could think of or it could be a miserable desert full of wild beasts and they needed to know and if it was good enough could they settle there and expand their borders it was simply to discover whether this new land was any thing special. think about how you explore the property of a new home you wish to buy, you search it to find out if it is worth buying or what kind of interesting aspects are there in this new place same with the exploration of Africa they had to know if it was good to capitalize off of or if it was a worthless place meriting no attention.
