They wanted freedom because they had no representation in Parliament, England's government. To pay off the French and Indian War England taxed the colonists. The Sons of Liberty including Paul Revere, Samuel Adams, and John Adams made a difference. They Dressed up aas Indians one night and went into the Boston harbor and dumped alot of tea. this was called the Boston tea party. the british were very mad with the colonies and they decided to blockade the Boston harbor. this made the colonists furious. many people in Boston didn't make enough because they were making their living from selling stuff and trading with the harbor closed they couldn't do anything. then another event was the Boston massacre. you probaly heard about this. the Boston massacre was a bloody mistake that the colonists in Boston made. paul rever was a silversmith and a very good one too. he engraved what happened and in his engraving it lookes like the colonists are innocent and saying to stop firing at them to the british and it looks like the british are just firing at them for no good reason. the townsfolk heard this and believed Paul Revere's side of the story. what really happened was a colonists alone was taunting the british soldeirs then he went away and got some more people like his drunk friends and they started taunting the soldiers and throwing snow and sticks and other objects like stones. the british commander told the british army don't shoot but the colonists played dirty and made fun of them so one soldier accidently fired and soon so did the rest. oh well , it was the colonist's fault!

They hated the British rule. Well, most of them anyway. The people who wanted to be free from the British were called rebels, or Patriots. The colonists who wanted British rule were called Touries, or Loyalists. Rebels just didn't want British rule since there were big taxes for things that they didn't even want! Great Britain also controlled the trade in the colonies and made rules like they could only trade with Britain. The Patriots hated being controlled.

Because the British were taxing them heavily with the Tea Tax and the Stamp Act and the Proclamation Act. Also, the soldiers killed 5 colonists in the Boston Massacre. Also, the colonists had no representation in Parliament, so all the taxes were made without the colonists having a say.
