very simple answer is that Hinduism was never a religion but a philosophy, a way of life and thus a Hindu can take up any religion of choice!!! Gautam Buddha, who was a Hindu by birth had preached on a more enforced form of Hinduism which was fasinating for hindus and thus the conversion in the old times, in the recent past, mass conversion was held for the so called lower caste hindus to escape from the Caste System.

Logically, lower castes were more likely to convert to Buddhism because the religion itself rejected the concept of castes. However, there is no evidence of what castes actually followed Buddhism.

Islam aims at human brotherhood. It teaches equality. The Caliph and the common man are equal in Islamic law. There is no caste system in Islam. All the Muslims are brothers irrespective of caste, creed, color or region. The teachings of Islam appeal to the lower castes and they become the respectable members of Islamic society as Hazrat Bilal (AS), and many other freed slaves are respected.

Because Buddhism doesn't have a caste system and the people from the higher class can marry the lower class and the vice versa. Also, they don't have to go pray at the Ganges River every week, instead they go to a temple as a buddhist and pray there whenever they want...

This happened because they saw that the practice of Sanatana Dharma had become corrupted; rituals and the use of statues for worship had become common some time before Buddhism came about.

Lower castes were more likely to convert to Buddhism because Buddhism rejected the caste system. If they followed Buddhism it meant that they would be able to become higher in society.

According to the Tipitika, people who converted (almost all of them in India) did so because they were impressed by the teachings of the Buddha.

Why Buddhism appealed to the lower caste in India?

It was originally founded by a Hindu who didn't agree with the way lower caste Hindus were treated, and it's practices and beliefs are very similar to those of Hinduism. Turning to Buddhism means a Hindu who previously was treated atrociously by members of their own religion and society can escape the discrimination they have been subjected to all their lives without changing their beliefs or lifestyle too much.

Why did Hindus believe it was okay to treat someone in a lower caste badly?

Does Buddhism use the caste system?

The caste system has nothing to do with Buddhism. Actually Buddhism was formed as a religion which does not believes in caste system. Lord Buddha spread the message to not believe in caste system, rituals etc. However, If you meant Hinduism, then the Caste system is a crucial to this religion. Because Hindus believe in reincarnation, they perform their "duties" (dharma) to be good fated (karma), which gets them higher in the caste system (varna). This all really happened earlier. Now Hinduism is also free from the discrimination of caste system.Answer:Some people think that the caste system is a part of Hinduism, many lower cast Hindus were being treated badly, so they conveted to Buddhism!

Why do Hindus accept Islam currently?

It depends on what "accept" means. If the question is asking why Hindus permit Muslims to freely pray in India, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, the answer is that Hindus in those countries respect the rights and freedoms to worship any or no gods as provided in those countries' laws. If the question is asking why some Hindus convert to Islam, there are two general reasons: The first is that Hindus may find that they believe in the values, structure, or truth of Islam and the second is that Hindus from lower castes may wish to use Islam as a way to escape from the caste system. Although India has outlawed the caste system, discrimination continues in a general societal way.

How do you end up in a certain caste?

It depends. If you are on the subject of Buddhism ,then the caste system is basically depended on karma. If you are born in a lower level, then you will stay in a low system until you die. If you do good in your life , you will be entered in a higher level of the caste system.

Is Jatt the highest caste in the Punjabi caste system?

yes, ask any punjabi person. The american born lower caste people have a voice outside of india and dont want to admit it these days and their just young kids that dont know any history. Originally the Jatts did not want to follow hindus and their rules, so the hindus tried to bring their status down. They were the leaders of sikhism, jatts were originally Scythia thats why. they were just recruited by higher caste hindus, but have nothing to do with them and a lot of them changed their names so people think their jatt
