It's the same reason people write Computer Viruses or do drugs: either because they are bored or to impress their friends (especially if they are young). When I am bored I read. When they are bored, they spam.

A high ranking in Google means more exposure for the site, and, in turn, means more page visits from more users all over the world. Because of the huge amount of traffic that WikiAnswers receives daily and the simplicity of wiki-ing in general (in which anyone can add and edit almost anything), spammers find sites such as Answers.com to be a gold mine for advertising their own websites, products, or services.To the average internet user, having someone else's advertisement displayed on a well-known site seems as though the popular site endorses the ad, when, in fact, the ad is nothing but illegitimate spam (and possibly even a scam) and disrupts the quest of the user to find the correct info they are looking for here.On the flip side, Answers.com's Supervisors and Community Assistants are working hard to remove spam as it is found and blocking the users -- whether registered or by IP address -- who are spamming this site. Spam can also be removed by any registered user on-the-spot by clicking the button to 'Improve Answer,' deleting the contents, and saving it. Removing the answer will return the Q&A to unanswered status so that it can, in the future, receive a proper answer from a user knowledgeable about the subject. Be sure, however to let a Supervisor know about such questions you have had to deal with, or simply click on the Report Abuse link on the bottom right of the answer box.
The development team behind Answers.com are also always researching new, innovative ways to prevent spam (and vandalism) without limiting access or use of the site by legitimate users.

Someone who posts spam would be a spammer. WikiAnswers is not the place for spamming.

Yes. Usually this happens if you are rude or offensive to other people, if you are warned and then continue to do whatever you were warned for, or if you are spamming or vandalizing the site.

No, spamming is unacceptable here on WikiAnswers. In fact, there is are group of people here called Supervisors, and their jobs is to get rid of spam on the site and block any person who violates the rules. Plus, some Supervisors become on the Vandal Patrol which is a gang of Supervisors, that look on various questions and message boards looking for spam and inappropriate language. If you like spamming sites, let me tell you, that WikiAnswers is not a good place to do it. If everyone were to create an effort, this site would be the most helpful question and reference topic site on the web.

Yes, as long as you aren't spamming, insulting, or bothering people with it. But trying to convert people that don't want to talk about it isn't going to be allowed.

How do you stop people spamming WikiAnswers?
There is no way to completely stop spam on Answers nor any other site. That said, warning people and blocking IP addresses are ways to reduce spam. Other than that, we all just have to keep cleaning it up.
What is a disturbance on WikiAnswers?
Obviously terrible answers (such as "your mom", "bye", "QCHICKEN5", and others), spamming, vandalism, and virtually anything that does not conform to our Terms of Use and other rules.
