The tags are worn to identify the soldier in the event that he is wounded or killed on the battlefield or in service. The second tag is removed, leaving the first with the body to be used as a recording device in case the battlefield conditions are not favorable to collect and bury the body right away. What is the piece of cloth in the dog tag?

During the Vietnam War, each GI wore (was supposed to wear) two metal dog tags, around his neck. Since the boots were tougher than the neck (more survivable), and more easily out of the way (didn't interfere with normal movements and make noise) many GI's put their dog tags in the laces of their boots, one tag per boot. If he became a casualty, one tag was taken by the unit (Sgt or Lt or one of his buddies for accountability), and the remaining tag stayed with the body (again, for accountability). Possibly a piece of rubber was issued with the tags to keep them from making noise (when banging into each other).

How were dog tags used by the United States military in the PTO and ETO?

all military personnel wore (two) dog tags. one on a main chain and the second attached to the main chain by a smaller chain. if the member was killed for any reason, the second dog tag, on the smaller chain, was removed to record the death of said person. this applied to both the ETO and PTO. this method is still in effect. Note: on the dog tag was victims name, serial number, date of immuniztion and religious preference

Why did soldiers wear a campaign hat?

In the 1840s, there were two standard military hats: the shako and the kepi. They're okay for parade ground wear but horrible for regular use, so soldiers started wearing civilian hats. The campaign hat as we know it came about when soldiers started pinching the crown of the hat into a peak so the water would run off.

What was the purpose of dog tags in the Vietnam war?

Dog tags are used to identify people who have died or are injured in battle. They are in a set of two. One is put in the mouth of the dead solider and the other piece is taken away. The identity of fallen soldiers has always been a concern in wars. During the civil war the men would sew their names in their clothing so their body could be identified and the families notified of their death. Often after civil war battles so many men were dead that shallow graves were dug to try to keep down disease and to clean up the battlefield. Many men were never identified because of this.

What are dog tags?

There are two kinds of dog tags. One would be tags you put on dogs so if they get lost they can be returned. Because this question is in a military category, I assume you are reffering to a different kind of dog tags. The military kind of dog tags are metal tags worn by soldiers. They are worn incase the soldeir dies and the body is too destroyed there is no way to tell whose body it is. If the soldier had a dog tag on, it would not have been destroyed, and they would be able to find out from it who the body belonged to. They are normally shiny, silver colored metal that is strung by a chain through a hole at the top, and are worn aroung the neck.

How do you get all of the battlefield 3 dog tags?

It is impossible to unlock all dog tags in the game, however it is ALMOST impossible to have the dog tags in the TAKEN section, mainly because two of the dog tags you can only get for participating in the creation of the game itself. But excluding those two, it would probably take over half a year, you would have to be playing constantly (I would NOT recommend doing that.) expecally for the gun dog tags and the reaching level Colonel Service Star 100 dog tag.

For human dogtags, your best bet is SoldierCity.com. They carry an assortment of dogtags, including custom dogtags.
