Because we aren't ready to let that person leave our life. It's normal to grieve whether it's through divorce or losing someone to death. They have left us with so many wonderful memories (every day wasn't a bad day) in most cases and later it will be those memories that keeps us strong and keeps us moving onward. Right now, the memories are all you have. Smelling a loved one's clothing is normal. Putting on a man's aftershave so you can constantly smell it is normal or, if it's a woman that has passed away a husband may put some of her perfume on himself. Lying on their side of the bed during the night (the nights seem the worst.) Wearing the bathrobe of that person or even sweats or an old T-shirt. Many women will go to bed with their husband's/boyfriend's shirts on or a T-shirt. It gives great comfort. When we keep the routine we had with that loved one it tricks our brain into thinking that all is well and any minute they are going to walk through that door. It is also a time when we want everything we know that person liked to be perfect, so, we follow their routines. What you are going through is very normal and just take it slow and easy. Time has a way of healing and those memories will be just that and a deep fondness in your heart, but your life will go on and you will one day be happy again. Hang on! Marcy It is part of the grieving process for those people. Having lost a brother many years ago, it helps to do things in his memory and have things around which remind me of how he used to be. No one wants to forget a loved one. There are people who feel it is so painful that they try to forget, but that is disrespectful to a loved one who deserves to be remembered. www.jaredstory.com has some good info on grieving. Well put Lkysmy. I forgot about the grieving part and thanks for filling that in. Marcy Because we want them to be with us whether or not they are with us anymore..We still want to believe that they are alive..

How do you help the bereaved to make own decisions?

When someone is grieving from the death of a loved one the person is in shock and will go through steps of grieving such as denial; anger; depression; feeling lonely and lost; segregated emotionally from others and in grief counselling it is suggested that no one that is grieving should make any major decisions in the first year of grieving because the grieving person's mind is in a fog-like state and mistakes could be made. Someone in the family or a very close and loyal friend should go along with the person grieving while doing business; talking to a doctor they are seeing or any other business so the family member or close friend can be sure the grieving person is not making mistakes or misunderstanding things that are said to them in business. Sometimes relatives may come out of the woodwork trying to get something from the grieving person that the deceased may have left so it is extremely important that the grieving person be kept save from anyone trying to talk them into giving anything away at such an early date. A grieving person does not get over grief in a few months and it can take one or more years to get over the worst of the grieving.

How do you make a girl forget her boyfriend who was lost and drowned in a lake?

You cannot make a girl forget her deceased boyfriend if it has happened in the last year or so. It is traumatic that a young man died so young and she loved him. Young people from generation to generation never think that they will die so when someone close to them does it is a very traumatic situation in their life. Love simply does not vanish because that person is deceased. She is grieving which is normal so it would be to your best interest to back away from any romantic thoughts about her and simply be there as a good friend until her grieving time is over.
