If you have a 4.0 SOHC engine you are hearing the timing chain rattle against the timing chain guides. Some slight noise is normal, but an excessive amount may mean you have timing chain guide and/or tensioner problems. If you have a 4.0 OHV engine, then you are probably hearing some lifter noise. Again, some may be normal, but excessive may be an indication of lifter troubles.
what clicking noise in the dash of 1997 mercury marquis
The fuse box has relays mounted in it. The clicking noise is most likely a relay that has gotten loud.
cv axels if it does it when you are turning
Humming noise on the front passenger side of a 1997 Ford Explorer XLT may be due to a bad tire. Try to jack up the tire and spin it by hand to see if the noise is there.
maybe its your flywheel alittle loose
One thing that can cause a clicking noise under the car is when the bar bushings get worn out on the sway bar. Also, it could be coming from the struts if strut oil is leaking. Other things that can cause a clicking noise if not working properly are the exhaust system and the transmission clutch assembly.
It might not be the timing chain, check if the exhaust muffler has not come adrift.
Mine was the egr valve fixed the shutting off
the loud clicking noise might possibly be a bad cv joint if so get repaired asap i just had the same problem fixed in a couple hours
The starter or solenoid are most likely bad. The starter assembly can be removed and put on a starter tester to see if its bad.
because it's a 1997 ford explorer
check your fuse. i had the same problem. that might be it. I doubt a fuse, the clicking is probably the horn relay that you hear. Fair chance the horn or connection at the horn is the problem. The clicking noise is the relay, and since it is clicking I doubt that your switch is bad, so check the fuse and also check the horn (hook it to the battery).
