My Monte Carlo is doing the same thing.... I have changed plugs, wires, fuel pump, fuel filter, CO2 Sensors, Catalytic Convertor. Still shuts off once in a while. I hope someone who reads this knows what else could be wrong! Sorry this didn't answer the question but if you do find out let me know! Thanks.
You may want to try swapping out the Mass airflow sensor. Start the car up and open the hood. Tap on the mass airflow sensor. If the car boggs down and wants to stall. That may be an indication that you should replace it.
