It is important to know why a Check engine light blinks. In many cars, when it blinks so many times, it is indicating a code, which is indicating the problem number for the specific car.

Something wrong with your throttle position sensor
It means there's some fault code. Narrowing it down, you'd need to check to see what code it flashes at you. Key in the on position, diagnostic or cruise control switch on, hold your Set-Accel/Hold-Deccel switch and count the blinks on the check engine light... it should blink a three digit code at you... the number of times the check engine light blinks is the number, then a pause, then it blinks another number, then a pause, then it blinks another number.
Have vehicle scanned to determine problem
My 02 liberty check engine light has blinked in the past. It was because my battery needed to be replaced. Count the number of times it blinks and search for that blink pattern online for better information.
Check for a loose bulb Check for a corroded or bad light socket
12 is start of message. 55 is end of message. There are no codes there.
You turn off the check engine light on any vehicle by finding out why it is on and fixing the problem. That light is on because one of the electrical leads going to the engine's computer is saying, "We have a problem." You can hook up the car to a computer and find out what the problem is. You can attach a light down below the dash and count the number of times it blinks and check a chart to get the number and then compare the number to a chart and find the problem. Or, you can cut the wire behind the dash.
Have it checked for codes to know possible causes.
