Your engine needs more gas to accelerate. Either your accelerator pump is worn out or it needs to be adjusted. Could also be timing. But more likely the accelerator pump. Look down inside the carburetor to make sure you're getting a good healthy squirt of fuel when you pump the gas. Make sure the car isn't running when you do this.

Why is your rochester quadrajet carburetor making a popping sound?

If you are hearing a loud popping sound from your carburetor while the engine is running, then that is engine back fire. It is possible that your timing is off at the distributor if it happens often.

1971 Ford F-250 with a 360 5.9L engine and a two barrel carburetor need help getting it back to ideling smoothly and to stop back firing also have some gas leaking from the carb What is wrong?

The float could be stuck open in the carburetor, causing the leak. The carburetor leak needs to be fixed, this could be all of the problems, it also causes a fire hazard.

How do you stop a kohler engine from backfiring?

Back fire can be caused by improper ignition or the wrong fuel air mixture. With the engine off remove the air cleaner and look below it. If there is fuel in the pipe then the carburetor is not stopping the flow of fuel and it needs a rebuild.

Why does your 1976 350 Chevy engine back fire through the carburetor at start up?

Possible: Timing is off, or carb is out of adjustment. I would have the timing checked. Timing might be off right at the crank and cam. Chain drive. It can slip or just have too much slack, depends on mileage.

If your 1983 Ford pick-up will not start were do you start trouble shooting?

Check battery first for proper voltage. If battery is good and your engine will turn over, check for ignition spark through ignition cables to spark plugs. If you have spark, check for proper fuel pressure. If battery is good but engine will not crank, suspect either the starter, solenoid, or ignition switch. If your problem is not caused by one of these, consult a mechanic. Look to see if the carburetor is working correct, if so try putting some gas down the carburetor, NOT A LOT or you will make the biggest back fire u have ever seen coming out of the carburetor, if you put to much gas in the carburetor step back and try and start it. Do this after u have tryed the other suggestions from the first post..

How does a fire start in a carburetor?

Normally from an engine backfire. The plug fires when the intake valve is partially open which will explode the fuel in the intake and carb.

Which of the following is true of a carburetor back fire flame arrester?

A carburetor backfire flame arrester is designed to prevent flames or sparks from escaping the carburetor during a backfire. It is typically located at the top of the carburetor and consists of a mesh screen or metal plate with small holes that allow air to pass through while trapping any flames or sparks. This helps to prevent potential fires or explosions.
