If the oil pressure warning light is coming on after the engine is started, you have a problem. The light is telling you the pressure is low. It may be nothing more than a defective filter or a loose connection at the oil sending unit. It could also be more serious. Change the oil & filter and make sure to use the correct filter. I suggest Purolator, or Wix. If you still have the problem, take it to a professional immediately. Do not drive the vehicle with the light on or you may do serious damage to the engine. I had a problem with the light coming on seconds after starting the car. It remained on for several seconds and went off. It seemed to come on during hard acceleration or hard braking. We took it to a local "import car repair" place and had the pan pulled and boiled, cleaned the oil intake screen, put it back together and we still had the light. After taking it to our nearest BMW dealer we learned it was a faulty oil level indicator. A pretty simple fix... it would be worth checking into before you take on a project yourself.

What does it mean when the GEN light comes on when you start your 72 Monte Carlo?

The GEN light is supposed to light up when the car is started as an indication that the light is functional. If it remains on after the car is started, however, your generator (alternator) is either malfunctioning or not working.

Can you please tell me why the oil light comes on and then goes out after the car is started?

When the car is off, there is no oil pressure. So it is below the threshold for which the light is supposed to turn on.

How do you turn of the green light near the engine starter where you put your key?

This one has me scratching my head. My 1989 323 LX has a small ORANGE light that comes on which I open the door; the purpsoe is to provide some illumination the ignition lock so you see to put your key in. The light automatically turns off after 30 seconds or if you start the car. Does your key ligth stay on after you've started the car? Cheers Malcolm

In the morning when you first start the car up the oil light comes on and beeps for a short timethen when the car is turned off the light goes out?

The oil light will usually come on for a few seconds when you first start the automobile. If the oil light stays on, it probably means you need to add oil to the engine.

What is the orange engine light on my Peugeot 306 dashboard?

The engine light on a Peugeot 306 symbolises that there is an engine fault. As part of the start up process this light will be on, and remain on for a few seconds after the engine has started. If this light fails to turn off after 10 seconds or comes on while driving you are recommended to consult a Peugeot trained mechanic who will be able to plug in your car to a diagnostics machine and work out what the problem is.
