Could be a bad ground in bulb socket-backfeeding searching for ground
There are many problems that come with owning a car. If a Left rear brake and turn signal do not work, a person should check the fuses, bulbs and wiring.
You should turn on your turn signal before you need to brake for the turn.
In many cases, the brake light and the turn signal use the same bulb.
Since most brake/turn use the same filament in the bulb(1157) then if the turn signal switch is bad or offset then it will effect the brake lights.
the turn signal switch sends current to the turn signal flasher. it then goes to the bulb. The turn signal switch will turn on the turn signal and when the brake is applied it cancels out the brake light as it is a duel element bulb. 1 element is for brake and turn and the other is for parking lights. you can not have a blinker and a constant feed to the same element of the bulb at the same time.
NO brake light come on only when brake is applied the brake light is activated by a switch on brake pedal 2.Turn signal light is activated by your turn siganal lever which control a flasher that make tne light come on and off which is located around steering underdash you will reconize flasher by clicking sound silver small canister good luck
The wires go thru the turn signal switch which may have a bad ground. Try and pull back on the turn signals and see if the lights come on with your foot on the brake....
short circuits in the turn signal and brake light circuits
Your turn signal switch is warn out or broken. Try moving your turn signal forward and back gently while holding the brake on and see if your brake lights come on or flicker. The plastic clips that hold the turn signal switch together brake off or just wear out and because the brake lights run through this switch they don't work. The pin switch for your brakes are under the pedal arm. Try depressing it by hand to see if they come on as it is adjustable (threads controlling degree of compression on button) if that doesn't work jump it with a jumper wire to bypass and see if they come on. If they do-fix switch, if not check the rest of circuit.
Turn signal switch is melting...replace the turn signal switch in the steering column.
Normally this is caused by a weak ground at the left turn signal bulb.
One of two things. Either the brake light switch behind the brake pedal. Or try wiggling or rotating your turn signal stalk in a circle motion. If the brake lights work when the turn signal stalk is wiggled then you need to replace the turn signal stalk.
