Sounds like the light bulb is either loose or burned out in the dash. Replace it.

It sounds like it is either as simple as the bulb being blown or the possibility of the switch being broken.

You have a dead short to ground. It will take some detective work to inspect the wiring and sockets until you find it. The problem seems to have started with replacing the left bulb. Start there.

Open the tail gate and find the 3 rubber plugs on the left wall by the lamp. Pry them out with a flat screwdriver. This will allow you to loosen the 3 screws that hold the tail lamp in. Unscrew the bottom bulb. If you find out the bulb is fine, you might check that the wires in your steering column to the blinker switch are tight. There has been alot of these with wires coming loose, as is in my case with my '01. Try adjusting the tilt steering up and check the function of the signals. Good luck.

I had a fast blink on the right turn signal of 96 Grand Cherokee. Initially, this indicates a bulb out. Sure enough, it was the passenger front bulb (not the one on the side). Took it in and had repair shop replace bulb since I was having other work done. Now the signal works fine, except when I turned on the parking lights (or headlights), the blink goes fast. Took it back in to repair shop, they replaced all three other front blinker bulbs. Still not fixed. Looked up on internet, seems a common problem is using an 1156 instead of 1295na for the front blinker. Opened it up, found the 1156. Went to Napa auto parts, guy said it was an unusual bulb but he had one in the back. Popped it in, works as it should. .

Its a common manufacturing fault. if you remove the rear light complete. then remove the actual bulb holder. If you then take out the bulb that seems not to be working, you will find that, there usually is some corrosion on the plate that contacts with the bulb. which stops current from reaching the siad bulb.
