Alexander the great was a greek king who conquered most of the region of the mediteranean and the whole Middle East. This region was the center of western civilization at the time, and by conquering it all, he brought it a cultural unity it did not have previously. This has led to many exchanges of culture and knowledge which have brought human civilization at its peak in the western world, and has laid the ground for the creation of the roman empire, which later would create European culture. After the fall of the Roman Empire, this high advancement of knowledge in the mediterranean region was later inherited by the Muslim empires, which thus have had a great intelectual advance compared to the rest of the world. This was then transmitted to europeans when they invaded Muslim lands in Spain with the reconquista and in the middle east with the crusades. This access to the knowledge of antiquity has made it possible for europeans to develop critical thinking and modern science, which helped them out of the dark ages and made it possible to create modernity and democracy. Modernity allowed europeans to conquer the whole world, causing desasters and atrocities. And then democracy allowed them and the rest of the world to realise that was bad, and that the real goal of human development was the well being of everyone, and thus is it the quest of humanity for a hundred years and more now.

Alexander of Makedonia has indeed had a great impact on the world.
