First the truck may need some service for the basic tune up and cleaning of mechanical items.I would do a basic tune up like new air filter, pcv valve, plugs, wires, rotor button and distributor cap and fuel filter.I would replace the oxygen sensor and change the oil and filter as well if the truck has been running rich.I would remove the egr valve under the carburetor and note the gasket position on this and clean with carburetor cleaner and small brush or sandpaper or cordless brush to remove the carbon buildup.I would reomove the air cleaner and clean the carburetor with carb cleaner very well and lubricate the linkage and choke with liquid wrench.Other things to consider may be a clogged or partially clogged exhaust collector below the exhuast manifold about the size of a large jar needs to be cleaned and the catalytic convertor if very old or over 60,000 miles replace it along with the muffler is a good idea.If you do the collector the exhaust manifold has to be removed in order to pull the collector free and down under the truck since that is the only way to actually remove it.I would also suggest removing the charge air pipe housing has the 3 hoses going to it and replace the filters inside that with some new filters.I suggest buying some new large filter pieces from auto zone and cut to size to replace those.Start simple with the first half, and if the condition is not up to par proceed with the more timely things especially the exhaust manifold and collector and the collector I suggest soaking it in muractic acid(USE GLOVES) and let soak over nite and use baking soda to neutralize the acid and blow out or let air dry.I have owned my 87 b2200 for 23 years since NEW and all the above will make a big difference.Unless a sensor like the air to fuel valve is going or another issue this will clear things up!!!I know this is a book however this book is correct and will make that truck run 100% better.Look to spend about 100.00 for a good tune up and a touch more with the extra items if the first things listed do not clear things up.OK
At 35mph it runs rough. Also when idling it will quit running, sometimes. Does that sound like I need new spark plugs? How many miles are new plugs & wires good for?
It probably needs a tune up. My 1998 Mazda 626 was idling very rough, so I did a tune-up by replacing the spark plugs and wires. This made the engine run better, but the rought idling continued. I took it to my mechanic, and he found a vacuum leak somewhere, and $270 later, it idles smooth as glass
If your check engine light is blinking that means an ignition misfire has been detected
Rough idling is whenever the vehicle's motor "misses" or does not fire causing an imbalance and a loss of rotation reducing the motor's power and causing excessive shaking.
mite be the icv (located near the rev cable) that needs cleaning i had same problem idling around 400 and sometimes cutting out a carb cleaner will clean it
my 1990 300zx is idling rough what could cause this?
Motor is idling rough.
timing off
My 1986 Honda Accord Dx just started idling rough and dieing at turns and stops it is a carburated 2.0 witha maunal transmission
a longer cam shaft will make a car idle rough
You dont you replace the timing control module
300zx twin turbo lots of black smoke and running rough
