Thomas Paine was born in England, but moved to the American colonies in 1774 at the invitation of Benjamin Franklin just in time for the American Revolution. Paine penned the pamphlet "Common Sense" in which he advocated independence from Great Britain.
He isn't considered the "godfather " of America . He was a very good speaker, a Quaker, helped organize people, was born in England, served as the first gov. of VA, and died in 1799.
