When racing at Lemans, drivers had to run to their cars and it was faster to start the car with the left hand and engage first gear with the right hand.
Not so. This is a urban myth. Contrary to recent Media Porsche ads and YouTube videos, from the beginning of Porsche, AG in 1948, the ignition key was actually positioned to the right of the steering wheel (as opposed to the left on the production 356 coupes, and 900 series and other models) on ALL racing TYP 550/718/RS60-61/ 356 TYP 540s (Speedsters), and 904 GTS', specifically for a faster "LeMans start." The pit mechanics actually left the gear shifter engaged in 1st so the driver only had to turn the key clock-wise, pop the clutch, move his right hand onto the steering wheel, along with his left hand, while turning the car clock-wise out of the starting pit position, and down the front straight. Is this really true? Just ask the still-living Hans Herrmann, or Dan Gurney, or Joe Buzzetta, all whom were racing with the Porsche factory during those Golden years. Vroom, Vroooom! yes he can
Right hand side of the steering column.Right hand side of the steering column.
On the right hand side of the steering column. It where you put your key to start the vehicle.
under the dash left hand or drivers side behand the emergency brake pedal
remove the steering wheel, then the turn signal lever and cam. you will then see a small bolt down in the right hand side of the column, remove the bolt and pull out the ignition switch. GOOD LUCK!
The electronic ignition switch is located just underneath the turn signal multi function switch on the left hand side of the steering column. To replace take of the steering column cover long Phillips screw driver. unscrew the 2 Phillips screws on the drivers under panel remove the 2 torx screws on the multifunction switch unplug the ignition switch wires and remove w/ a torx screwdriver
Underneath the plastic on column, right hand lower side...accessible without dropping column.
What kind of auto is it. Sounds like you may have an ignition switch problem.
Undo six screws holding the plastic housing around the steering wheel (it separates in two halves). the ignition switch is held into the rear of the key barrel by one philips head screw. It's tight to get to but once removed the switch just slides out of the end of the barrel (key and lock assembly remain). Unclip the wiring socket and the ignition switch is in your hand. On my 97 Terrano ii the switch has the brand CLAUSOR and the number 911056.
If you mean the hazzard light switch, it's to the right of the steering wheel on the dash. Whenever you flip the signal level to make a left turn your hand will be right at it...above the ignition switch.
Stick your hand under the hoodnext to the porsche emblem & feel for a lach then psh it to the side
