A plugged or partially plugged EGR valve could cause that.
Are you getting spark?Could be Ignition module, pick-up coil, coil...
View your owner's manual for specifics on the mileage requirements for maintenance. My rule of thumb is to change the belts when you change your spark plug wires and your cap and rotor.
make certain your rotor is turning as you try starting it.If you remove the distributor cap and watch your while someone turns the engine over your rotor should turn, if not, you might have a sheard pin on the distributor gear or a broken timing chain or belt.
I would help to know what year and model vehicle you have but, you may have a bad fuel injector.
