check if the bulbs are burnt out. If they arent check the fuse to see if it is blown. Sometimes this is rare the fuse is good, the bulbs are good but the actual switch you use to turn the lights on could be bad, its happened to me once before

Open rear door hatch. There on top of the rear tail lights you will see two or three screws. Remove those screws and gently remove the tail lights. When your done with the tails lights reinstall.

Are you saying your tail lights themselves do not work and only the brake lights work. If that is the case, check the fuse, and then check the tail light bulbs.
Which connection? The dash is in the dash, the tail lights is in the rear hatch area...you can find a wiring diagram and info in a shop manual at the library...you need to make copies as they are reference only...:)
