Initially, because Africans had a significant role in the dark ages of Europe. The dark ages in Europe were some of the bright ages for other people around the globe. Africans aligned themselves with and were part of the Moors. The Moors ruled over and controlled a large part of Europe during what history teachers term the "dark ages". They were dark because, there was nothing to speak of coming out of Europe during these times. As soon as Europe started gaining back control of their lands, they targeted those who ruled over them and who they had been fighting with for so long. Europeans know this. Most blacks don't. And this is why there is such an effort to control black people's progress around the world. Europeans are afraid of the past repeating itself. Please read up on real history, and don't believe that crap that they feed you in school. As a matter of fact, don't believe me, read up on the Moors, the Moors' rule of Europe, and Christopher Columbus and what he had to say about the Moors.UPDATED ANSWER

AFRICANS WEREN'T A PART OF THE MOORS, THE MOORS WERE AFRICANS, PERIOD. The word MOOR is the English translation of the Greek word MAUROS, which means scortched or burnt. The EUROPEAN DARK AGES started after the fall of the Roman Empire, which was around the 5th century ACE(after the common era). The Moors started their invasion of Spain in 711 ACE. Their invasion actually signaled the beginning of Europe's rise out of the DARK AGES.

The Moors introduced the 1st public bath houses, because Christians at that time believed bathing was a sin. They introduced the 1st public schools for all citizens, including the 1st 17 universities, because 80-90 percent of all Europeans were illiterate, including royality. They introduced science, mathmatic, algebra, chemistry, the zero and an actual number system to replace the archaic and cumbersome Roman number system, which is nothing more than a series of alphabets with numeric values. When the Moors 1st rode into Spain atop their Arabian steeds, they were characterized as being AS BLACK AS THE NIGHT, hence the term KNIGHT(S) as in Knights of the round table. THE ORIGINAL KNIGHTS WERE MOORS, OR BLACK.

Usually, when one culture invades another, whatever the invading culture introduces will retain the name given to it by the invading culture. Since the Moors primarily spoke Arabic, that explains words like algebra, chemistry, arithmetic are actually English translations of Arabic words. If you watch the movie Robin Hood PRINCE OF THIEVES by Kevin Costner, you'll see a Black man, Morgan Freeman, protraying a Moor, as well as examples of the many things they introduced into the English /European culture, like the C-section, gun powder, eye glass, camera, rifle(fire stick) etc.
