Why was it necessary for the founding fathers to include the 6th amendment in the constitution?

It prevents the government from silencing its critics by holding them for years in jail, without trials. A public trial guarantees that the trial be conducted in full view of the people who are interested in that trial. These law courts could have a man imprisoned, he would be brought before judges without a lawyer. they would ask him, "What do you have to say for yourself?" He would have no idea who made the charges. No attorney would speak on his behalf. No one would investigate the charges. No one would know why he was hanged.
