Adding more info to this: The problem is only changing from 1st to 2nd, downshifting from 3rd to 2nd is fine. This is only an intermittent problem and but does happen in approx 50% of gear shifts. Sometimes it is as if the gear is simply not there and I have to go straight to 3rd, other times it slips straight into 4th instead of 2nd. I would really like to know what is wrong with the car as I only just bought it and my last one was a rotten car!
It's possible that you have a problem with your clutch. Alternatively, you may simply be releasing the clutch too early or too suddenly when changing gear, not giving the various cogs sufficient time to 'mesh' properly. First gear is a powerful gear, and requires more care when changing up from (or down to) than most others. Fully depress the clutch and lay off the revs when changing to second gear, and try to effect a slower, more gradual release when taking your foot off the clutch. As an added precaution, try to change up to second gear at lower speeds.
Difficulty shifting, can't reach first gear and grinds to reverse, have to stomp on the brakes to downshift, basically any sort of unusual difficulty with shifting, car jumps forward when clutch is engaged or moves while on a flat surface and clutch is engaged.
Probably do to a bad pressure plate and or clutch plate. I would first check linkage adjustment and slave cylinder before changing clutch.
Changing gears is easy. All you have to do is push in the clutch and then up and over to third gear.
The only time you need to use a clutch on a motorcycle is when shifting into First, You aren't going to do any more damage to the gears than if you used the clutch. Its designed to work that way.
bleed your clutch..that may be the problem
0.08 : I wish I could understand the difficulty here! If the first is metres and the second is centimetres, then the first is bigger.
It depends on where you live and where you get it done at. I payed $1,200 for a used transmission and clutch replacment the first time at about 120,000 miles, and $800 when i put in the second clutch at about 160,000 miles. I found out on the second clutch that downshifting to slow the car down is NOT a good idea, because the clutch fins are so thin on Saturns. Mine was a 94 SL2, sure do miss it....
momentum of a body can ae changed in two ways.. First by changing the mass...and second by changing the velocity:).
Sounds like the clutch is shot.
Make sure parking brake is fully released Transmission fluid and filter may need changing If it has a manual transmission, try giving it a little gas as you release the clutch into 2nd.
Sounds like you have clutch issues, check the hydraulic clutch fluid level, if it is low you have a leak.
