most likely cause : reservoir too full
second cause : bad/loose hose
unlikely cause : cracked radiator/engine block
look under the hood, there should be a plastic "jug" labled engine coolant only. it has a min and max line. i usually keep mine in the middle. is it too full? low? just right? if too full it will work its way out and leak a little when you turn the car off. low? add more 50/50 antifreeze/water mix so its about half way
with the car running examine around all radiator hose connections, looking for signs of leaks (caution, motor and antifreeze may be hot!) especially on the big hoses. pay close attention around belts. an improperly installed hose can easilly run thu on a fan/acessory belt
last (with motor turned off, but slightly warmed) check your oil. is there what looks like water, or white/cream color impurities mixed with the oil? if so the block is cracked, amd the car needs a new motor. all other problems are easily solved by tightening leaking hoses, or replacing them
Could be anywhere along the radiator hose to the journal where the thermostat is located, the mounting plate that the oil filter is screwed on to.
According to the 1997 Lincoln Town Car Owner Guide : ( it came from the factory with antifreeze that meets Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A ) * that would be green color antifreeze *
I was looking at the 1997 Lincoln Continental Owner Guide and the engine cooling system capacity ( including the heater ) is ( 14.25 quarts / 13.5 liters ) So , if you have a 50 / 50 mix of antifreeze and preferably distilled water You would need ( 7.125 quarts / 6.75 liters ) of antifreeze
I had a 2000 Lincoln LS and the Antifreeze Reservoir had a rash of heat induced cracks on the side facing the Firewall. The antifreeze would ooze and evaporate without leaving a puddle but a whiff of the smell could be noticed on some occasions. My 2005 LS has some of the same cracks but has not started to leak or ooze antifreeze. Also on my 2005 LS there was an upper hose leak but only with 16 psi or more of pressure.
To have a 50 / 50 mixture of antifreeze and preferably distilled water you would need ( 7.5 liters / 7.9 quarts ) of antifreeze because according to the Owner Guide the cooling system capacity is 15.0 liters / 15.8 quarts Ford shows not to exceed 60 % antifreeze and not to drop below 40 % antifreeze in the cooling system
Check your drivers manual. It would depend on the climate you live in.
According to the 1998 Lincoln Navigator Owner Guide : It came from the factory with a 50 / 50 mix of distilled water and GREEN color antifreeze ( meeting Ford specification ESE-M97B44-A ) The engine cooling system capacity is 20.8 U.S. quarts , so you would need : ( 10.4 quarts / 2.6 gallons of antifreeze ) for a 50 / 50 mix * Ford states not to exceed 60 % antifreeze
no, why would it have antifreeze?
On a 2003 Lincoln LS or Lincoln Town Car : Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine Sensor 1 would be close to the engine BEFORE the exhaust enters the catalytic converter
any antifreeze should work but I would use a universal antifreeze equivelant to dexcool
If your sitting in the drivers seat the fuse panel would be up underneath the dash on the left kick panel near the top.
On a Lincoln Navigator : Bank 2 is the drivers side of the engine * sensor 1 would be close to the engine BEFORE the exhaust enters the catalytic converter
