I am having this same problem. The lights for the license plate don't work either. I have had two mechanics suggest to me that I replace the HeadLight Switch. I am thinking about ordering one on Monday.
If parking/dash lights work check bulbs double filamented smaller filament is for tail lights If parking/dash lights do not work check fuse
This sounds like an issue that VW has recognized and is fixing for free. I would recommend calling your local dealer and consulting them on whether this is a problem that they have sent out a recall about.
Blown fuse. Your brake lights don't work either.
By the nature of the question I assume that you are referring to the tail lights and brake lights. My Explorer has four bulbs. Tail, brake turn and backup. They are all in separate compartments of the light assembly. So it could be that you have just burned out one bulb. If you are referring to the upper brake light in the rear window or at the top of the tailgate, same thing. One or more bulbs are burned out. I see people driving all the time with both lower lights burned out and the top working or visa versa.
No, the license plate light is wired in with the rear tail lights, not the brake lights.
might have a short in the wiring to the light socket!! same happen to me...
The tailights might be burned out. Typically the tailights and brake lights are separate bulbs.
Switch is defective or out of adjustment.
It means one of your rear brake lights are out. Not the tailights but the brake light(s).
Check bulbs Check fuse for parking/tailights Check brake light fuse
Check bulbs they are double filamented smaller for brake lights larger for tailights Check the fuse Check the operation of the stoplight switch
Check the bulbs - they are double filamented- smaller for stop and larger for tailights
If there is no brake lights on a 1998 Mazda pickup, check the fuse. If the fuse has blown, the lights will not work.
Please re-phrase your question; it appears you are saying the brake lights come on when you push the brake pedal and the lights are working (normal operation). If the lights are staying on after you release the pedal, then the problem is with th brake light switch (sticking). Thanks Malcolm
Check the fuse for parking/tailights Check the bulbs - they are double filamented with the larger for tailights Check for power and ground at light sockets
brake lights dont work
Check bulbs they are double filamented smaller for brake lights larger for tailights Check fuses Check stop light switch
Check the fuses. Parking lights/tailights/dash lights should be a common circuit Check the fuses. Parking lights/tailights/dash lights should be a common circuit I had the same problum last year and had to replace the wires.
