Either - Instrument cluster has internal failure in it, thus requiring removal of the cluster to be sent out for repairs. - Sending unit has failed, thus needing replacement, it is attached at the fuel pump (you remove the fuel filler neck to remove pump and sending unit)
it sure would work.. behind the dashboard are plugs for each function. one for tachometer, one for speedometer, fuel, water temp. ect.. if your new dash doesn't have a tachometer it will not interfere with the speedomet aspect of it. but you will not have a tach obviously. that sucks kid
why would a speedometer stop working on a Mazda
check the fuses.
The wires on the back of the gauge pod could have possibly come loose. Two of the screws that hold the gauge assembly in are hidden behind the air vents, they just pull out at a slight downward angle.
Check the fuses near the drivers left foot
its probably a blown fuse or relay
you need a new onr they do this occasionally and then need to be replaced
Yes, it would be the same fuse that feeds the entire gauge cluster.
If the speedometer and odometer doesn't work I would suspect the VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is faulty. If the speedometer doesn't work but the odometer does, I would suspect the gauge cluster is at fault.
The problem would be that the car is messed up
relay
fuse to the dash gone ???
