You have a 1994 cavalier that the hood release cable broke how do you get in to the engine without tearing up the car?

I have a 93 z24 and all i did was peel some of the cover over the cable off and i use a pair of vise-grips to open my hood. either you take off the bumper cover, and pull the bottom lever of the hood latch or go fron underneeth i had the same problem on my 94 i just rigged up a bicycle cable in there and joined it with the old cable...works like new
