i have that problem where it sounds like metal scrapping and it was the A/C Compressor clutch that only made noise in the winter. i just ignored it! ---------------- ~Nate owner of a: 1999 Pontiac Grand AM GT 3.4L HO 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1L (dead!) 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 3.1L (Also dead!) both GPs died @ 200,000 miles relating to Lower intake manifold gasket! WATCH THOSE!! I have the same car and a similar sound when cold. I think it could be the sharter silinoid stiching or the powersteering pump.
depends on where the grinding id coming from
A bad transmission. The sound is from metal grinding on eachother.
check the drive axles they could be bad
Grinding
The "awful grinding sound" might be a problem with your power steering
the a/c pump could be loose.check to see if the bolts are tight.
Usually it'll be a grinding sound.
Neenor. neenor.neenor.
possibly your wheel bearing is on its way out
Yes, the differential can make a grinding sound.
I would guess that it is the wheel bearing. is it a grumbling sound or an all out grinding? If it is or was a grumbling sound and has turned into a grinding it is probably the wheel bearing.
Wheel bearings, and if they're making that kind of noise your spindles could be shot by now too.
