Sounds like it may have a blown head gasket. The knocking and white smoke would indicate that you are probably looking at a complete overhaul. Someone has driven it with the blown head gasket and bascially ruined this engine. Drain the oil and change the filter. Drive the car to a trusted mechanic and have them check for a blown gasket.
Check your trans fluid with the engine running, if it is full you need more diagnosis...
Naming the 3.8 engine and giving year of 'beretta' would certainly help.
Yes it will, but you have to put all the blazer engine stuff onto the beretta engine...
your not getting oil to the engine or its running low
You may have a bad catalytic converter. This may also be caused by an engine running rich which is a number of possibilities.
After running for a few minutes...Need more information?
i have a 1994 Chevy beretta and they are under the engine

Energy getting converted from one form to other.
No, check it after the engine has not been running for at least 15 minutes.
depends on which engines you are switching around as to how much you have to change over. Any engine from any beretta should bolt into any other beretta, tempest or corssica. However, you might have problems with computer, wiring harness, gauges, etc. You should also keep engine and tranny from doner car together.
