It depends on your body--I got the Depo Shot and it took me three months to return to a normal period after the three month coverage period. Continue to use protection after that time, because your Depo has expired even though you have not returned to normal estrogen production. Also, if you think you might be pregnant, definitely get tested before beginning any new BC. \ Hope this helps.
